World Famous People Who Were Born in Tanzania

Despite having a number of world famous people, Tanzania has produced several famous people who are not Tanzanians but were born in Tanzania.

Marin Elizabeth Hinkle is a Tanzanian-American actress. She was born on March 23, 1966. She is among many television and movie roles and best known for playing Judy Brooks on the ABC television drama Once and Again, Judith Harper-Melnick on the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men, and Rose Weissman on the comedy-drama series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, on Prime Video. 

For her role in Maisel, Hinkle was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2019 and 2020.

Rachel Zawadi Luttrell is a Tanzanian-Canadian actress and was born 19 January 1971 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. She is the daughter of Veronica Makihio Shenkunde Luttrell of the Sambaa tribe of the Usambara Mountains, and Dr. William Leon Luttrell from Bossier City, Louisiana. 

Rachel studied piano at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and also studied ballet at the Russian Academy of Classical Ballet School. Rachel is best known for her role as Teyla Emmagan, an Athosian warrior leader on Stargate Atlantis

Freddie Mercury was a songwriter, British singer, record producer, and lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. He was born on 5 September 1946 Stone Town, Sultanate of Zanzibar and died on 24 November 1991 (aged 45) London, England.

He is regarded as one of the greatest lead singers in the history of rock. Having studied and written music for years, he formed Queen in 1970 with drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Brian May. 

Freddie wrote numerous hits songs for Queen, including “Somebody to Love", "We Are the Champions", "Killer Queen", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Don't Stop Me Now", and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love".

Adam Eric Richard Nditi was a Chelsea football player with a position of full-Back Attacking Midfielder. He was born on 18 September 1994 in Zanzibar, Tanzania. 

He joined Chelsea in 2008 up to 2014 when he arrived from Tanzania. Adam Nditi caught the eye playing local league football in Basingstoke and quickly impressed on trial at the Blues' academy.

He also played at left-back for much of the campaign despite having been used in more advanced roles for the younger age groups at the club.

He is known for designing many notable buildings around the world, including the Skolkovo Moscow School of Management and the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC.

Chipo Tariro Chung is a Zimbabwean actress and activist based in London, she was born 17 August 1977 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Chung appeared twice in “Doctor Who”, in one episode playing the Master's assistant Chantho, and in another, a character called the “Fortune Teller”. 

Chung first film credit was as the voice of Icarus II in Danny Boyle's Sunshine, as well as appearances in In the Loop and Proof. 

She appeared on other television include the drama The Last Enemy and as a reporter in the Sherlock second series episode "The Hounds of Baskerville".
