A word processing is the act of creation of documents using a word processor program. It is referring to the art of text manipulation. A document created may include letter, memos, reports, manual or any other required by office. 
A word processor is a computer application or software used for creating a word document file. Most word processors are powerful program that can produce any arbitrary combination of images, graphics and texts etc. e.g. Microsoft Word

Different between Word Processor and Word Processing
Therefore, the different between word processor and Word processing is, word processor is the type of software used to create word document while word processing is what you do with a word processor or software e.g. typing of a letter

In general Word Processor
(i) Can store the document electronically on your computer
(ii) Make it possible to revise text and reuse it
(iii) Enable location and correct spelling

(iii) Some actions are automated hence typing on word processor become easier & more efficient.
(iv) In Word processors you can Insert and replace a word without affecting the structure of the document.
(v) Word processors have superior document formatting features such as underlining, boldfacing, italicization, applying different colors, etc.
(vi) A Word processor enables one to produce many copies of a document through printing; whereas, a typewriter may require retying of the entire document when we want many copies.
(vii) Provides secrecy in writing documents through Passwords.
(viii) Allows Mail merging (combining of several documents).

Disadvantages of Word processor.

(i) It is expensive to afford since need to be bought.
(ii) The use of Word processors creates unemployment to some people.
(iii) The use of the Word processors is limited only to those areas with power supply.
(iv) There is need of a literate person to operate it.

Before the use of word processing for computer device, type writers were used by many people as part of their lives, most of them were used in education and in industries such as copy-writing. The following are advantage of using a word processor over typewriters
1. Word processor can save data while typewriter can’t save data.
2. Word processor can edit while typewriter can’t edit.
3. In word processor it is easy to correct mistakes while in typewriter not easy correct a mistake
4. Word processor have a feature like spell checker while in typewriter there is no such features

Factors to Choose a word processor
The following are the factors to consider when choosing a word processor:
(i) The type of operating system in your PC. For example, most microcomputers are currently running on Windows based operating systems. This means that when choosing word processor, you should consider acquiring a Word processor based on graphical user interface.
(ii) Ease to use or consider user-friendliness
(iii) Its formatting and editing features. The program should have a good and variety of formatting features to help you to create a good document.

Title bar

In this bar there are list of options to manage and customize documents.

Ruler
This is used to set margins, indents, and tabs.

Standard toolbar
This is the part of toolbar that contains many shortcut buttons for the most popular commands.

Formatting toolbar
This also is the part of toolbar that contains a list of buttons that are used for formatting.

Insertion point
This is the location where the next character appears.

End-of-document marker
This indicates the end of the document.

This provides quick access to Help topics.

Scroll bars
These bars are used to view parts of the document either up or down or side.

Status bar
This bar is used to display the insertion point position as well as working mode buttons.

Task pane
This provides easy access to commonly used menus, buttons, and tools.

View buttons
This changes the layout view of the document to Normal view, Web Layout view, Reading Layout view, Print Layout view, Outline view, and Full Screen view.
