Computer Handling | How to take Care of your Computer System

Computer Handling
Computer handling means taking care of your computer in all aspects, that means in issues of power disturbance, virus, theft etc.
For example we can take care of our computer in the following areas:
  1. Power disturbance
  2. Liquid and dusts
  3. Viruses etc

1. Power Disturbance
This is unwanted voltage that is sent to electrical equipment including our computers.
Typically power disturbances include;
  • Voltage Surges
  • Sags
  • Spikes
  • Total power loss

  • Total Power Loss

Advertisemen

Is the accidental or planned loss of power in a particular area. This caused by failure of equipment, accident or human errors. The effects of this my include improper shut down of the Computer of computer also can bring some damage in the computer system. Solution of this problems is to use Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), this device saves some power so when the power loss you can save your work and shutdown properly.
  • Surge
This is the  increase of voltage above the normal voltage, it can be more than 110% of the normal voltage and this problems can damage your computer as well which caused by different factors like starting and stopping heavy equipment's, office machinery, welding equipment's, elevators, lighting.
The effects of this is to bring several damage in computer devices. You can avoid this by using voltage regulator, power conditioner (Stabilizers), Surge suppressors, UPS and motor generator
  • Sag/Brownout
Sags is the fall of electricity below 80% of the normal voltage. It is the opposite from surge and caused by Overloaded circuit, the effects of this lead to short circuit, shut down of the computer, you can avoid this problems by using UPS, Stabilizers, voltage regulator etc
  • Spike
Is an impulse that produce a voltage overload on the power line.Caused by starting and stopping heavy equipment's, office machinery, welding equipment's, elevators, lighting. The effects of this is causing several damage in computer devices. Solutions is to use power conditioner, motor generator.

2. Liquid and Dusts
Liquid and dust are destructive to any electrical equipment's including computer. They tends to affect the flow of electricity in the motherboard, mouse, keyboard and other the lead to short circuiting. To avoid this computer room must be dust free, do not enter with any liquid. Use soft clothes, blower machine, vacuum cleaner or spry to clean equipment's

3. Virus
A computer virus is a type malicious software program (malware) that replicates by reproducing itself or infecting other computer programs by modifying them or affect files and programs.
How Virus Spread
Usual virus are from three major ways:
  • Removable media; eg Flash disk
  • From downloads off the Internet; especial from attractive site like porn site and advertisements
  • From e-mail attachments.
Prevention and Protection against Virus
  • Install Antivirus software
  • Do not share removable disk from other computers if you don’t have antivirus
  • Do not open an email attachments unless you have active antivirus

Concepts of Ant-Virus Software
Anti-virus software is a program that is designed to prevent, detect, and remove viruses, and other malicious software like worms, trojans, adware, and more. Examples includes Bit-defender Kaspersky Lab, Norton Security, Avira, Trend Micro, Avast, ESET, F-Secure, Panda Security and BullGuard

Other Problems that can affects computer are
4. Magnetism
5. Heat

Some of important things to consider in order to protect computer
Utility Programs
These are programs that help to take care of your computer generally, either making more

usable, more stable or more efficient. These are neither application programs (word
processor, games) nor system software. But utility programs are small programs that
assist operating system.
The following are some of the utility programs
  a) Formatting programs
  b) Backup programs
  c) File compression programs
  d) Anti virus
(a) Formatting programs
Formatting programs is the programs used to prepare a storage medium, usually a disk,
for reading and writing. Also means erase all records from disk
Examples of formatting programs, Tokiwa Fat32Formatter, Partition Wizard
(b) Backup programs
Backup is an exact copy made of the file or folder. Backup programs are programs used to copy and store information or data to be recovered if lost. Examples, Pipemetrics Backup and Rebit 5
(c) File Compression Programs
File compression is a method in which the logical size of a file is reduced to save disk
space for easier and faster transmission over a network or the Internet. Examples, WinZip and GUI Tar
