Jamii Forum CEO Maxece Mello, is Sentenced to Jail or to Pay Fine of 3 Million Tanzania Shillings
Resident Magistrate's Court Kisutu sentenced the Jamii Forum CEO, Maxece Mello to pay a fine of TShs. 3 million or one year in jail after being convicted of obstructing the police.
The court also acquitted fellow prosecutor Mickie Mushi after not being convicted of same crime of obstructing the police.
The Judgement was handed down by Chief Resident Magistrate's Thomas Simba in which the defense has appealed against the sentence.
Melo is in custody waiting to pay the fine or failing to serve a year's imprisonment. In the primary case, the defendants allegedly prevented the Police from investigating in violation of section 22 (2) of the Offenses Offenses Act No. 14 of 2015.
The defendants allegedly committed the crime between April 13, 2016 and December 13, 2016 in Mikocheni areas Kinondoni District.
